If you're one of the few people who have been living under a rock for the past four years, Instagram is taking over the world. It's one of the hottest social platforms to get your name/brand out into the world. If you'd like to follow my account you can click here or up in the right side of the page! How do people follow you and stay followed? Wonderful pictures of course. Here are some key features on how to edit your Instagram photos like a professional blogger or photographer would.
What you're taking your pictures with can make a significant difference. Personally, I use three different camera techniques to receive different, but professional looking, quality photos.
1. Canon EOS Rebel T3 (not T3i)
My Canon T3 has the most professional looking photos. However, I do not carry that big bulky thing around with me all day, every day. If you want your photos to receive the best quality possible, any DSLR camera will do the trick. Although, it is quite expensive. In the end, it's an investment worth making.
2. Sony Alpha a5000
Any handheld camera or "point and shoot" camera will still almost always be better quality than a smartphone camera. I recently upgraded from a Canon Coolpix camera to a Sony Alpha. These cameras are more portable and easy to pack with you throughout the day. The Sony Alpha, along with many newer "point and shoot" cameras have the ability to connect through wifi. This allows the pictures taken with the camera to be sent straight to your iPhone so you can post on Insta!
3. Iphone 6
My smartphone is with me at ALL times of the day. I do not go anywhere without it, like most people in this day in age. If for some reason your cameras aren't with you because you just don't feel like having them, and you have the perfect oppurtunity for a great picture, don't fret! Any phone/smartphone will do the trick! Once you're finished taking the picture with your phone, you can import into editing apps to make it look of better quality!
Lighting is, in my opinion, the most important quality in the photo. If you don't have good lighting, it will throw off the whole photo. Luckily, we humans on Earth, have this wonderful thing called sunlight! Natural lighting, or sunlight, is the best source to have a wonderful lighting. You can step outside and it doesn't cost you a thing. The other form of lighting can come from inside your home. However, this lighting tends to have an yellowish tinge. If you have the means, there is another type of indoor lighting. You can use studio lighting or a ring light! This intensifies the white lighting and creates a wonderful source of light when you can't go to natural lighting!
Once you've finished with taking the picture, it is time to edit! Editing can be the best part of taking a picture. You can increase the saturation and increase the contrast. Add more light if you need to, darken the shadows. Really, your options are endless!
My favorite apps used to edit on are:
Afterlight- It costs a dollar, but it is completely worth it!
VSCOcam- You can add on so many different filters that leave your photo looking sick!
Touch Blur- This app let's you blur out anything you don't want people to see!
Facetune- Facetune can be used & abused, but I use it to whiten my teeth & add white tones to my picture!
These are all options, but you don't need them. Instagram has new settings where you can edit straight on the app! It also has a new feature where you don't have to crop anymore! When you're editing, you should try and keep an idea of how well your photos coexist with each other. This is called "Instagram theme".
Having a theme isn't necessary but it does keep your Instagram profile looking more appealing to the followers. There are literally hundreds and hundreds of themes. Some of the more popular themes seem to focus around having blue tints, white tints, black and white, and/or colorful pictures. These tend to draw in a new follower and keep them coming back to your profile. Obviously, having cute/popular hashtags will attract new followers, too! Try and fit your theme to your personality and what your personal aesthetic is.
I've been waiting & waiting for all the fall fashion issues of magazines to come out. Finally, two arrived in my mailbox today. "Marie Claire" & "Harper's Bazaar" are two of the most influential magazines out there today!
On this years' fall fashion issue of Harper's Bazaar is the lovely miss Katy Perry sporting a retro hairstyle inspired by the iconic Elizabeth Taylor. This issue is one of the bigger issues due to all of the inspiring fashion coming out this season. I saw plenty of warmer tones in brown and yellow. Plaid is still in, too. Shocker, I know!
There are plenty of new fragrances coming out, as well. I'm most excited for the 24k Gold Fragrance by Michael Kors. Overall, I've found multiple outfits that have inspired me for this upcoming season.
I'm looking forward to Fall. Mainly, for the pumpkin spice latté from Starbucks, am I right ladies? That and those cozy sweaters.
I've been love several new items this month! From a wallet, tote, selfie stick, to new makeup! The month of August has been great for new products! Unfortunately, August means that summer has come to an end and school has begun. On the plus side, Halloween is right around the corner!
